Black and White. Classic.

One of favorite types of photography is black and white photography. So the tip for today...try it in black and white!! You'll be surprised at how some of your images change from "ok" to..."breath taking"...Black and white is classic and perfect for candid poses, portraits, weddings...anything!! If in doubt, before you delete...try it in black and white, and often you'll be pleasantly surprised!!

Those are from sessions I've done recently...

These are just for fun candids of my family to show you that ordinary images can be breath taking, even if they are merely just "real life" pictures!! My nieces!! :)

Those precious moments were captured...not with perfect lighting, clarity, or a beautiful background, but during "real life"...Do your best to enjoy what you have around you and take pictures of what you love the most... Keep in touch!

Photography Tips: Exploring Nature's Twists and Turns

Have you ever really stopped long enough while on your morning walk, your picnic with the kiddos, or your favorite park trip to look at the many shapes and lines in nature?! Isn't it amazing?! Here are some tips for some nature photography that will get your creative juices flowing!!

1. Be patient. Sometimes we want to sit for 10 seconds, snap an AMAZING, PHENOMENAL photograph and be on our way to Photoshop or your favorite editing software! But one of the most amazing times of relaxation and learning for me, comes from sitting near a bush, looking at one particular flower, or waiting for that bird to come down to a closer branch. I am by no means a nature photographer, but the photographs I have taken, have taken time. Just go sit near a pond, a tree, a flower bed and see what comes your way!!!

2. Be aware. You'd be surprised what little creature you might find when you are truly aware of your surroundings. This goes for any type of photography, but especially nature photography! The flower that looks like a typical weed can be the most beautiful wild flower with the right sun flare or little creature flying by. Even though we tend to just "walk down the sidewalk", try changing things up. While the kids play outside, bring your camera, grab some shots of the kiddos, but then start looking around!! Look at the tree that has been there for the last ten years...the flower that's just beginning to bud...the fence that divides your property...You'll be surprised what you find!!

3. Be Daring. Grab a couple shots with one subject...then try new editing techniques. I'm coming to love the dramatic black and white nature photographs. It changes from fresh to classic...I love it!

Photography Tips: Taking Your Own Baby's Pictures!

Sorry about the lack of tips! Have you ever had all the greatest intentions in the world to do something and then something happens? and another ? and another? !! That's been life for me lately! But here are the newest tips on photography for you, my friends!

Taking Own Baby's Pictures : Tips for You

1. Be sure to have your little one well fed and rested for awake pictures. Babies always do better when their tummies are full and they've had plenty of sleep! If you are doing sleeping newborn pictures, you are better off to make sure they have JUST been fed and are starting to relax. Let them fall into a DEEP sleep before you begin! One thing I've learned, especially lately, is that if the baby has just gone to sleep, it's not time to disturb them! Give them a good 5-10 minutes to really get into sleep.

2. Find a nice SOFT, TEXTURED blanket for your little one to sleep on. I know we all love those amazing pictures of the baby in the nest, or newborn on a log, cello, piano, etc., but if you haven't experienced helping newborns pose in those types of pictures, you may be in over your head! Just relax and start small. You can do this! Teaching myself newborn photography has been a long and unique experience, but taking it a little at a time is your best way to go! I usually go to Joann's fabrics or Hobby Lobby to find some of my more soft material! Check the red tag at Joann's or check out their coupons! I usually plan on getting 1- 1 1/2 yards of fabric for a session depending on how old the baby is...If you are doing your pictures solo, be sure to get enough to drape or hang up for a backdrop. If you are working with someone, then have them hold up the backdrop for you, in whatever angle you need.

3. Lastly for today, my best advice in actually taking the pictures of your little baby...YOU CAN'T GET CLOSE ENOUGH! Go in CLOSE to their little button nose, their ear, their little mouth, and especially their little closed eyes...SO PRECIOUS!!! Hold the camera steady as you go in for a close up, as any kind of movement with compact cameras can cause blur.

Today I spent the day with a sweet friend in Wimberly, Texas! The shops there have the cutest most unique things! I just grabbed a few memories of what we saw!

Even though I'm a professional photographer, I find sometimes that my creativity runs low, that I start losing interest, and that I lose that special "awe" which made me fall in love with capturing life through my lens. Taking on these special tips is helping me refresh my "creative juices"!! Don't forget to keep shooting, keep learning, and don't compare. To be honest, there will always be someone better! But the fulfillment comes, when you can personally take part in making your life more beautiful. God's given us so much to admire!!

Hello friends! Today I was reading an article and it emphasized taking pictures DAILY to improve your photography...I have off and on wanted to take on this challenge, but get so busy that I forget!! Now I'm getting serious...A couple times every week, I'll be posting everyday pictures! I'm promising myself, I will take my camera....EVERYWHERE! I challenge those of you reading to do the same! No matter what kind of camera you have or whether or not you have ever even taken pictures...PICK UP YOUR CAMERA (even if it's on your phone!!) and start capturing moments in your life, objects that capture your interest, your favorite design of shirt, your dream comforter set...WHATEVER it is that you love- GO CAPTURE IT!

What a sweet little guy...He wasn't all that interested in having me take his picture, but Mom helped me so much, we still got some really precious ones!! Thanks Mom for helping me get great shots! Logan is a little extra special because his older sister was my VERY FIRST INFANT SESSION!! Can you believe it??? :) It was so neat to see her grown up and BEAUTIFUL!! This little lady was an angel! She slept the ENTIRE time and let me do basically whatever I wanted to! Sometimes after sessions, I just sit back and look at my work...and realize why I love doing what I do. Tonight is one of those nights. Capturing the fleeting moments of a newborn makes what I do, worth the work. This little baby won't be a baby very long...after a year, she'll be a toddler, roaming around the house getting into everything. Then give her a few years and she'll be starting kindergarten, graduating high school, and then getting married. To know I was able to freeze this moment for her parents makes it worth while...:) Congratulations Greene Family!

Just an FYI they aren't paying me to advertise, but I would definitely recommend them! Usually gluten-free items can taste a little bland (I should know-I eat them!) But these were AWESOME! They didn't even taste like gluten-free foods! Keep checking-we're going back in two weeks for round two! More gluten free items including basil pasta (Mmmm...)!
